Stock Analysis: Johnson and Johnson— Time to let go or let it ride?
JNJ has been a member of my investment portfolio since March 2018. Despite the generous dividends, growth has been subpar. Is it time to let go?
Johnson and Johnson (NYSE: JNJ) stock has been an 'official' member of my investment portfolio for almost seven years. I picked up shares in March 2018 as part of my strategy of incorporating more income-producing holdings.
The vast majority of my investment decisions have been focused on growth. However, I also like to sprinkle in more mature companies with higher yields (like JNJ) to boost passive income, balance, and stability.
Ironically, my original reasons for incorporating JNJ into my portfolio are part of what's making me want to sell my shares and move on.
While I usually don't watch my holdings "like a hawk" and just let them be, this stock was put on my radar a couple of weeks ago as I completed my portfolio review of 2024 and again last week when they reported earnings for their fourth quarter and full-year 2024.
In today's investment report, I share an analysis of Johnson & Johnson to get a feel of how the company is performing at its core and how it's been doing since I became a shareholder.
I'll put a magnifying glass on my shares— how have they been doing?
What's my Return on Investment thus far, and how does it compare to the market average or other holdings?
Has my thesis changed since I bought the stock in 2018?
Could my money be better put to use elsewhere?
