Eight years since my first book! Let's talk about it.
Where did the time go? In today's post, I celebrate the eighth anniversary of the book that made me an author. I tell you what inspired me to write it and who it is for.
Hello, members!
I hesitated to share this post here, considering it is unrelated to “investing strategies.”
However, since Substack is a platform and community based on writers, I realized - why not? Also, the book's topic is investing, so it fits right in. :)
Important: Feel free to skip this and stop reading here if you're not interested (no hard feelings!!).

On March 2nd, 2016, I published my first book (ever!) about one of the topics I am most passionate about: Investing!
While looking at my calendar recently to organize some work tasks, I realized Saturday, March 2nd, was the 8th anniversary.
Some of you reading this have been part of Girl$ on The Money from the beginning and probably clearly remember when I announced that I was writing a book.
A couple of things inspired Stock Market Investing Mini Lessons for Beginners:
Reason #1: When I discovered the stock market for the first time (in the fall of 2004), I was hungry for more content around the subject. It became a huge passion and my new "hobby" (more like a borderline obsession) to consume content around investing.
In addition to listening to shows about the markets on AM radio (to my knowledge, podcasts did not exist) and reading articles online, I'd also check out books at the library and purchase some Barnes and Noble, only to get discouraged immediately.
Most books I came across seemed overcomplicated. The main focus was either day trading techniques (which I had zero interest in) or books with heavy language about retirement accounts with overwhelming details and terminology I was not looking for.
I was seeking a book that would be short and to the point with easy-to-read details about how to understand the stock market better and benefit from it. I also wanted to learn (in simple language) how to become an investor.
As a first-generation investor, I had no one in my family or circle of close friends doing this. I soon realized that the book I was looking for did not exist (yet), so it became one of my life goals to write one - eventually.
Reason #2: I was starting my business (circa 2015), and people kept asking if I had a book :) - that was more than enough motivation to start putting "pen to paper." Or, should I say, "fingers to keyboard?"
And so, my first "baby" was born.
My first book is for you if you're new to the investing world with minimal knowledge of how it works. You want to understand individual stocks and the stock market and get motivated to start!
The book is very basic and VERY easy to read. Some have even described it as “investing for dummies” which I am not mad about lol.
If you are an experienced investor, the book is not for you ;). However, you can gift it to someone in your life that you want to motivate to invest!
And that's all, friends!
The number 8 is a special number. I just could not let this anniversary go by without acknowledging it :)
Please let me know if you have ANY questions.
If you're curious about the step-by-step process of how I wrote the book, how I got it published, and how I positioned it to become an Amazon Bestseller almost immediately after it was out in the world, stay tuned for Part II. I am almost done with it and will notify you once it’s completed. I’ll share the link here.
We all have a book in us, and the world needs our wisdom. Let it out.
Cheers to health and profits,
Mabel

I love this post Mabel! Congrats on 8 years of publishing your first book, wow! You said so many things that got me excited. We all have a book in us, that is true. I have been wanting to do a poetry book for years but, I talk myself to square one every single time so I never begin. I have the poems so the book is pretty much there. I just need to arrange them and publish. I am awaiting your part 2 so I can see how to get this poetry book out there. I initially didn't buy your book as I was deep into day and short term trading but, yes I too can buy it for someone else. I have your other one, Stock analysis 101 and it's good. I am so glad I found you via the Budgetnista years ago. It has been a blessing so, keep it coming hermana!
